Pinot Noir vineyards in Carneros, California

Carneros, California

Carneros wine region, CaliforniaThe Carneros appellation is one of the few appellations in California defined by its climate conditions. The appellation, spanning both Napa and Sonoma counties, is nestled between the Pacific Ocean, Coast Mountain Range and San Pablo Bay.

Carneros’s terroir is ideally suited for producing the cool climate varietals and is acclaimed for the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines. The maritime influence of the Pacific Ocean and cooling afternoon breezes from San Pablo Bay, combined with mild days and summer fog, create a long growing season.

The constant winds off San Pablo Bay, combined with clay soils that offer poor drainage, create stress on the vines, keeping crop yields small. The long growing season provides ample hangtime, allowing the Pinot Noir grapes to develop intense and vivid fruit flavors.
